I'm like a broken record, I know. If I need something - whether it's a picture frame, a mirror, a lamp, a table, first thing I do is: shop my house! Always. Seriously, you might have just the perfect treasure sitting right there in front of you, happens to me all the time. So when I needed a very small table for in-between my new chevron chairs, I looked around...and lo and behold, in my daughter's room was THE PERFECT ONE!
It was basically a place to stick her lamp, and served no purpose other than that, and it was a hand me down from my now almost teenage niece's room, so needless to say, it had seen better days.
She never even opened the drawers! There was leftover sticker gunk all over it, nail polish stains (?!), scratches, dents...let's just say, I wasn't taking a prized possession out of her room by any means.
And it turns out she LOVED the little bit of rearranging I did in her room when I pulled this bad boy outta there, and now she has her beloved bookshelf next to her bed that holds her lamp and the zillions of books she reads at bedtime. So it's all good, people, trust me;) This happens to be my mini-me daughter we're talking about, so for the love of decorating, she is ALWAYS game for a paint makeover. In fact, when she got home from school she actually gasped, "Mommy, it's GORGEOUS!" Kid cracks. me. up.
All I had to do was replace the knobs and mix up a little paint with plaster (shocker, I know!). Those old knobs were a beast to take off - the screws had stripped, AND the knobs looked like they were hot glued on?!! So I literally had to hammer them off, but in the end, can't tell one bit.
If you haven't read my previous posts about this paint and plaster recipe, it's a cinch. Mix up a little bit of paint that you need (I use satin white paint a lot, but flat is fine too). I pour it in an old tupperware container, and now I save any plastic tubs for this purpose - rice pudding tubs, butter tubs, they're all great for these one-time paint jobs! then just add a couple tablespoons of Plaster of Paris to the paint. The recipe is generally 2 parts paint to 1 part Plaster of Paris, but I've been getting along fine with less plaster, and it seems more manageable. The mixture still works great, and it's not as clumpy. With this paint, there's no sanding or priming necessary, so it's a quick and easy way to paint. It will go on practically ANY surface too. Then when you're done, wax it.
So a few coats of that white paint, new knobs, which I purchased at Target, and we have the perfect sized table for the new space!
Since this picture was taken, I moved the lamp to the left a couple inches and it looks much better;)
When I first had the idea to paint this table, I played around with a lot of ideas. Should I go fun and bold, get some crazy knobs? Do some sort of mod podge action, like my DIY Map Table, make it chippy and distressed? Finally I decided since the chevron pattern on the chairs is so BOOM! In your face! Then, the Ikea pillows I placed on them makes it even more busy, that the table should be simple and sweet. I thought white paint and classic glass knobs would be just enough.
Just the perfect spot for a cup of coffee, and a small pitcher of flowers (OMG am I excited for my hydrangeas to bloom and have them sitting there ALL. SUMMER. LONG! ;)
I think these small chairs and little table take up just the right amount of space on this small wall. I'm loving how it's coming together...
Wanna see the same exact wall several months ago?...
Wow, seems like forever ago!
And yes, that would still be the Christmas wreath hanging on the chalkboard! On the hunt for a nice boxwood, or perhaps wait a few more weeks and place a springtime one up there. At least I changed the Christmas words;)
So there it is, my "new" accent table. No piece of furniture is safe in this house, I tell ya!

So simple, and so elegant. Great job. Isn't shopping your house the best? I'm getting ready to shop my basement for a new living room furniture arrangement. I might even play some musical rugs (instead of musical chairs).
Great job, Liz! It fits so perfectly there. I love shopping my house too. Megan
That table is just perfect and those chairs are fabulous! What a transformation that space has gone through. Love it! :-)

I have the same lamap...except mine has a square base. Did you get it at TJ Maxx? Mine has the same shape shade, but it's silver-gray.
I think simple white was such a great choice! I always love glass knobs. Jealous of the chairs! Beautiful!!!
Wow! Your new dresser looks so sweet! Is the main benefit of chalk paint that you don't have to prime? I've never used chalk paint, and I don't think I've ever seen it up close! Plus, I love your chairs! Would you mind telling me where they are from? I've lived in my home for nearly 10 years, and our living room is still empty!
I absolutely love it! You always have such great ideas and have inspired me for many of my own projects! Thanks for sharing!
Oh my gosh! Looks like a picture straight outta BH&G!! Love it!!!
