Trash to Treasure: My "Free" Mirror

If you're a regular ND reader, you probably know how my mom seems to have this endless stash of stuff to give me. Seriously, every time I'm over there, I leave with at least something to spruce up. A while ago she gave me this old mirror she was getting rid of. It was black with birds or something, and a gold-slash-wood frame - not quite sure what it was?! Anywho, I took it, because there's nothing I love more than taking something outdated and giving it a fresh, new look. Plus it was free. Duh. No brainer;)

So I decided to make it even more of a challenge. What did I already have that I could use to change the look of this so that it would work in our home?

I knew just the thing.

So I taped the mirror part up with some paper and painter's tape...
...Then I primed it all using spray paint primer to hide all the dark colors...
...then I sprayed it with silver metallic spray paint...
Then I used a piece of scrapbook paper I had, cut strips to size...
...and I used my foam brush to apply a thin layer of matte Mod Podge on the back of each strip and then brushed a layer on top.

Done!
Got me a brand new mirror, and it matches our family room just perfectly!
Not bad for 100% F-R-E-E!
One more look at it before:
and now:
Oh, how I love a challenge;)
